Types of Psoriasis (Part 1)

Psoriasis occurs in different forms with distinct features and has so far been divided into five groups. Knowing the type of psoriasis helps you choose a better treatment.

Plaque psoriasis:

Plaque psoriasis (psoriasis vulgaris) is the most common form of the disease and is seen in more than 80% of patients. With prominent pink or red skin plaques covered with a silvery coating of dead skin, it is marked with distinct borders, in different sizes, and with an almost symmetrical distribution on both sides of the body. These lesions often occur on the elbows, knees, scalp, and to a lesser extent on the back. These plaques are often painful and itchy and may cause cracking and bleeding.

Drip psoriasis:

Droplet psoriasis is a form of psoriasis that occurs as small, spotty lesions and usually begins in childhood or adolescence. Droplet psoriasis occurs suddenly with pink papules 1 to 10 mm in size with fine scaling on the trunk and limbs. About 10% of the psoriasis population has drip psoriasis, making it the second most common type of psoriasis.

Reverse psoriasis:

Reverse psoriasis, also known as intertriginous psoriasis; It appears as red lesions on folded areas of the body such as the back of the knee, the armpits of the genitals, the areas around the anus, the groin, the crease under the breasts and the groin. These lesions are generally smooth and shiny and the crust is not visible on the surface of the lesions.
